Abstract

Many traditional methods of assessment by classical tests, examinations and questionnaires are mainly useless in e-Learning settings, because they are timeconsuming and limited in their ability to diagnose different levels of expertise. On the other hand, there are new types of assessment (performance assessment, portfolio assessment, self-assessment and peer assessment) that are embedded in educational process and require high level of student involvement in assessment. IMS Question & Test Interoperability Standard (IMS QTI) provides a good starting point for modeling and designing modern assessment systems. This paper presents basic concepts of IMS QTI Standard, as well as the way for designing assessment system that is based on IMS QTI Standard, satisfying the reqirements that new types of assessment dictate.
